What is the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

The aim of both is generally the same: put simply, it is to help a person to function more healthily and harmoniously in relationship to oneself, to one another and to life. This can leader to a greater sense of peace, happiness and freedom, as well as a richer experience of living authentically. However, the training for Psychotherapy is longer, and the qualification of Psychotherapist has more stringent requirements. Most, if not all, Psychotherapists can practice Counselling but Counsellors cannot practice Psychotherapy without furthering their qualifications.
I am a trained counsellor with many years experience, and about to complete my Masters training in Psychotherapy.

Dr. Leo Buscaglia

How can couples therapy help?

Many relationships experience difficulties and hardships, which often result in emotional distancing, estrangement or in the extreme, divorce. There are ways to overcome these difficulties, salvage your relationship and rekindle the connection and intimacy that once was.

I am here to offer my professional insight in supporting couples to create a healthier relationship that allows each individual and hence, the partnership to flourish. My understanding and observation is offered in a safe and confidential environment, where problems can be openly and honestly resolved. The aim is to create a closer and more intimate relationship, which has a stronger bond of love, trust and understanding.

It is too often that couples give up before using the available support of a good therapist, especially when it can make the crucial difference to your relationship and give it the chance it deserves.

I have a passion for working with relationships, and will offer useful and deep insight to the partnerships that I work with.

What is coaching?

Coaching is a more directive form of support that allows a client to reach goals and take certain directions. As a coach, I help with:
- looking at what limits you (beliefs, lifestyle and other challenges)
- motivation in reaching your goals
- supporting you in choosing the goals and directions that are authentic to you.

Sometimes, using coaching skills in therapy can be very useful, once the client feels they are ready to move forward in certain directions. The coaching skills are an invaluable complement to my work as a therapist, while the counselling and therapy facilitates the depth and insight into human nature required for successful coaching.

What is telephone therapy

There is also the option of considering having sessions over the phone, for those who have to travel long distances or for those who have a particularly busy schedule. Please contact me for further information.

Free initial consultation

I believe in ensuring that clients make an informed decision about the therapist and nature of the therapy before making a commitment. It is for this reason that I offer the first consultation appointment for free, without any obligation: the aim is to give you the chance to decide whether you feel right about continuing work with me, to discuss the way forward and to ask any questions that you may have. It is my firm belief that the quality of the therapist, as well as the relationship between the therapist and client is crucial to facilitating growth and change.
